Jenny's Story

An avid hiker and traveler, Jenny set a goal to visit all 50 states and was only three states shy of completing that dream. She inspired others with her love for the outdoors.

On January 25, 2022, at just 33 years old, Jenny had a major stroke that left her with little odds of survival.

Today, Jenny is living with locked-in syndrome, a rare neurological condition that severely limits voluntary movement and speech. While her mind remains present and aware, her body does not respond the way it once did.

But if there is one thing that has not changed, it is Jenny’s determination.

She continues to put in the work every single day.

While insurance support stopped, her recovery did not. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of donors, Jenny has been able to continue intensive therapy which are essential to helping Jenny work toward regaining her speech and mobility.

The cost of private therapy has placed significant financial strain on her family. The Hike for Jenny program exists to ensure that her recovery can continue, and to extend hope and resources to other stroke survivors and caregivers navigating similar journeys.

Before her stroke, Jenny worked as a broadcast journalist, committed to telling other people’s stories with care and integrity.

Now, it is our turn to tell hers.
